If you’ve never had the opportunity to stay in a 5 star hotel be aware that once you have it can be hard to go back. We have stayed in a handful of very nice hotels over last few years and have come to the conclusion that the experience is something worth paying a bit extra for. The Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur was no exception. Fortunately, with the exchange rates, the price of staying here was extremely reasonable. We upgraded our room to the king bed with tower view deluxe room which we would highly recommend.
Sadly we arrived in Kuala Lumpur a day late and missed a night in this amazing room (we will be writing a post on our experience with Air Asia which will explain why we arrived a day late). Upon arrival, we were greeted by a group of bell boys who were extremely friendly and who genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs. They took our bags and guided us to the elevator where they sent us to the lobby and informed us that our bags would arrive shortly. We proceeded to check in and felt very welcomed by the staff (something we do not always feel as we usually look like we have been living out of a backpack for weeks when we check in to hotels). We were given the card for our room and given direction on where to find it. We went up to our room and our bags arrived moments after we did. The bellboy brought in our bags and gave us a tour of the room and explained how everything worked before leaving. Throughout our stay the staff did an excellent job of making it seem as if it was a pleasure to have us.
This room was among the most spectacular we have ever stayed in. We had an excellent view of the Petronas Towers which was one of the main reasons we stayed here. Furthermore, our room was on a corner giving us a panoramic view of the city. The room was modern and the furniture was well kept and comfortable. The washroom was well laid out and reasonably spacious. It was certainly calming to enter our room again at the end of a busy day and navigating the hectic streets.
The rooms also included all amenities that you would expect (wi-fi, safe, mini bar/fridge). If you need it, the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur probably has it.
The hotel grounds were well decorated and well kept. During our stay we enjoyed the dining at both restaurants and swam in the pool. Both restaurants are well worth dining at in our opinion however we would recommend eating a meal at Thirty8. Thirty8 also offers amazing views of the Petronas Towers but from a higher vantage point. It is a bit pricy but again, the exchange rate worked well in our favor.
During our stay, we were amazed by how hot it was. As a couple of Canadians escaping winter we were having some difficulty adjusting to the temperature. In order to beat the heat, we spent an afternoon at the hotel pool. The pool is on a rooftop and also offers a great view of the Petronas Towers (have you noticed that this hotel is in a great location yet?). The infinity pool is beautiful in itself. There were day beds and Bali beds available and we spent a few hours swimming and reading.
The Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur has great facilities and offered all the luxury we could hope for. We had an excellent time staying here and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kuala Lumpur.
